Soviet soldier predicts birth of Taliban in 1980 Jun 30, 2008 12:27 pm

The Soviet war in Afghanistan, also known as the Soviet-Afghan War, was a nine-year conflict involving Soviet forces supporting the Marxist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) government against the mujahideen resistance. The latter group found support from a variety of sources including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other Muslim nations in the context of the Cold War. This conflict was concurrent to the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War.

Initially Soviet deployment of the 40th Army in Afghanistan began on August 7, 1978. The final troop withdrawal began on May 15, 1988, and ended on February 15, 1989. Due to the interminable and inconclusive nature of the war, the conflict in Afghanistan has often been referred to as the Soviet equivalent of the United States' Vietnam War.

*SNIP*

According to Captain Tarlan Eyvazov, a soldier in the Soviet forces during the incursion of Afghanistan, who revealed that Afghan's children's future is destined for war. Eyvazoz said, "Children born in Afghanistan at the start of the war... have been brought up in war conditions, this is their way of life." Eyvazov's theory was later confirmed correct when the Taliban movement developed and formed from the Afghan orphans or refugee children who were forced by the Soviets to flee their homes and relocate their lives in Pakistan. The swift rise to power, from the young Taliban in 1994, was the result of the disorder and civil war that had warlords running undomesticated because of the complete breakdown of law and order in Afghanistan left behind by the Soviets.

*SNIP*

A Russian soldier predicted the future of Afghanistan with the now development of the Taliban. He was very intelligent with his insight on the human race! I wonder if he is still alive to see his words come true.

Did the Cold War come back to bite everyone on the butt or what? I'm talking world level munchies.

Nixon Shock Jun 30, 2008 12:14 pm

My roommate, Pramod, began discussing oil prices. He brought up Nixon, 1971, and the downfall of currency worldwide "out of the blue".

I thought, "What does this have to do with today's economy?"

Here is my response to him about his misguided direction about US History. We had a seriously heated discussion with many factors. I will educate him before he moves back to India and takes all of my US dollars with him.

----------------------------------

What's your point about the "Nixon Shock"? Do you think the downfall of currency worldwide was due to Nixon in the 70's? THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS STARTED WAY BEFORE THE USA WAS EVEN A COUNTRY. There is a male mentality that somebody has to be the "best" I BELIEVE THIS IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL EVIL. If someone could just make the world countries understand that we need to work together and not against each other for improvement, then I guarantee the world would be a better place for everyone. IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO RAISE A CHILD! Why can't the world be a community and raise it's children with the respect they deserve.

In 1971, when you weren't even born, do you really think this "Nixon Shock" is the single reason leading to today's world "implosion"? Dude, the economy goes up and down.

Read about the Wall Street Crash of 1929! Again, a person is documented forseeing such disaster. Shortly before the crash, Irving Fisher famously proclaimed, "Stock prices have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau." The euphoria and financial gains of the great bull market were shattered Black Thursday, when share prices on the NYSE collapsed. Stock prices fell on that day and they continued to fall, at an unprecedented rate, for a full month.

Both issues had nothing to do with oil prices!

Why do you think other countries look to the USA as a guidance? Shouldn't "other" countries start looking out for themselves? Shouldn't "other" countries start being "men" in today's world? Are you a man, or do you rely on the USA to make you a man? Perhaps, this is the reason for your anger. A country, especially the USA, can not make you a man who is complete. You must do it on your own!

Better, yet, why not start working together so our future children will have a chance for peace and prosperity.

Candy gets her Masters! Jun 30, 2008 12:01 pm
Mood: 49, 461 Views
It's been along time coming. I returned back to school to finish my Bachelor's in 2003. I then graduated Summa Cum Laude (AGPA was 3.92/4.00) in Technical Management.

I then decided to start Graduate School approximately 6 months later. The intense work required for school was so overwhelming that I ended up quitting a job that I had at United Airlines for 10 years. This was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make in my life.

I continued with Grad School and landed quite unexpectedly a job as a Project Manager. Once again, I found myself and my grades struggling. I ended up leaving another good paying job to finish school.

I barely made it into the final Capstone (equivalent to Thesis) program with an AGPA 3.03/4.00. In the US, one needs an AGPA of 3.00 to qualify for graduation.

After 2 months of no life and no sleep, I finished the Capstone. I worked on a project for a Consulting firm enhancing their current business model. The only friends I had were my 3 classmates and the professor.

The professor said that this has been the best work he'd ever seen for a final presentation to a client. He said most companies would pay $150,000 USD for this type of work. I ended up getting a 970/1000 points, which is an A.

There were so many sacrafices made by my team with personal lives, but we did it. Salute!

I have to submit one more form, so I can receive my diploma. I will then have my Masters in Network and Communications Management. I have decided to not go through ceremony at UIC. I just want the diploma along with the prestige.

I am so relieved and so happy to finally be done with school. I will start looking for a job in the coming weeks. I've decided to relax and have some fun before I put on the corporate suit again.

Qur’an May 26, 2008 11:10 pm
Mood: 72, 1175 Views
Muslims believe the Qur’an to be the book of divine guidance and direction for mankind and consider the text in its original Arabic to be the literal word of God, revealed to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel over a period of twenty-three years and view the Qur’an as God's final revelation to humanity.

The Christian concept of revelation which means God incarnating and unveiling himself and become visible and audible for mankind is foreign to Islam. Wahy in Islamic and Qur’anic concept means the act of God addressing an individual, conveying a message for a greater number of recipients. The process by which the divine message comes to the heart of a messenger of God is tanzil (to send down) or nuzul (to come down). As the Qur'an says, "With the truth we (God) have sent it down and with the truth it has come down." It designates positive religion, the letter of the revelation dictated by the angel to the prophet. It means to cause this revelation to descend from the higher world. According to hadith, the verses were sent down in special circumstances known as asbab al-nuzul. However, in this view God himself is never the subject of coming down.

The Qur'an frequently asserts in its text that it is divinely ordained, an assertion that Muslims believe. The Qur'an — often referring to its own textual nature and reflecting constantly on its divine origin — is the most meta-textual, self-referential religious text amongst all religious texts. The Qur'an refers to a written pre-text which records God's speech even before it was sent down.

The issue of whether the Qur'an is eternal or created was one of the crucial controversies among early Muslim theologians. Mu'tazilis believe it is created while the most widespread varieties of Muslim theologians consider the Qur'an to be eternal and uncreated. Sufi philosophers view the question as artificial or wrongly framed.

Muslims maintain the present wording of the Qur'anic text corresponds exactly to that revealed to Muhammad himself: as the words of God, said to be delivered to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. Muslims consider the Qur'an to be a guide, a sign of the prophethood of Muhammad and the truth of the religion. They argue it is not possible for a human to produce a book like the Qur'an, as the Qur'an itself maintains.

Therefore an Islamic philosopher introduces a prophetology to explain how the divine word passes into human expression. This leads to a kind of esoteric hermeneutics which seeks to comprehend the position of the prophet by mediating on the modality of his relationship not with his own time, but with the eternal source from which his message emanates. This view contrasts with historical critique of western scholars who attempt to understand the prophet through his circumstances, education and type of genius.

Fifi goes to the Veterinarian on Thursday May 26, 2008 9:59 pm

My baby, 20 year old cat, goes to the veterinarian on Thursday for dental work. I'm very scared. I love this baby, as if I gave birth to her.

I drop her off in the morning and pick her up in the evening. I pray they are gentle to my little bundle of love.

Memorial Day May 24, 2008 11:15 pm
Mood: 29, 1151 Views
Two of my babies "roommates" went on vacation this week!

One went to Puerto Rico and one with his girlfriend via a hotel in Chicago. I miss my boys this weekend.

Just because I didn't give birth to them doesn't mean I can't miss them.

"Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (in 2008 on May 26). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, after World War I it was expanded to include casualties of any war or military action."

Osama bin Laden May 21, 2008 5:43 pm

This boy is just bad; he's pure evil to the core. In a recent article...

"Osama bin Laden released a new audio message last week in which he termed the Palestinian issue the "core reason" for al-Qaida's war against the West, and a major impetus for the 9/11 attacks. This is the second time in less than six months that he has tried to put Israel center stage: In December, he issued an audiotape threatening to "expand our jihad" to Israel in order to "liberate Palestine, the whole of Palestine, from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea." Yet in reality, Israel has never been of much interest to al-Qaida. Thus it is crucial to understand what bin Laden seeks to achieve by pretending otherwise."

bin Laden said this on Israel's 60th anniversary. Why is he so angry with "western" ways? Most of what I read leads me to believe bin Laden is INSANE. First, he targets the Christians. Second, he targets the Jews.

Beware India... he will have a THIRD target called Hindu! What's fourth? Mormons?

bin Laden is INSANE. He's good looking, but extremely INSANE.

I'm often told not to drink the water while in Mexico for sanitary reasons. I'm starting to wonder if the water bin Laden is drinking might be tainted with LSD.
