Clever Mom eh????? Nov 2, 2008 2:31 am

A Mom comes to visit her son John for dinner.....who lives with a room mate, a girl named Reena. During the course of the meal, his mother couldn't help but notice how pretty John's roommate was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between the two, and this had only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between John and his roommate than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts, John volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Reena and I are just roommates."

About a week later, Reena came to John saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the silver chutney jar . You don't suppose she took it, do you?" John said, "Well, I doubt it, but I'll email her, just to be sure."

So he sat down and wrote:

Dear Mother: I'm not saying that you 'did' take the chutney jar from my house, I'm not saying that you 'did not' take the chutney
Jar. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.
Love,
john.

Several days later, John received an email from his Mother which read

Dear Son: I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Reena, and I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with Reeena. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the chutney jar by now under the pillow...
Love,
Mom.

Life expectancy is rising Nov 1, 2008 5:32 am

Life expectancy is rising steadily every year, with women living up to 79.9, on average, and men 75. Set your expectations higher with our guide to holding back the years

Get laughing
A good laugh is like a mini-workout - 100 to 200 laughs are equivalent to ten minutes of jogging or rowing, says US cardiologist, Dr William Fry. Research also shows that it lowers levels of stress hormones, and heightens the activity of the body's natural defensive killer cells and antibodies.

Go to bed later
Sleeping more than eight hours a night may reduce your life expectancy. A study in the Archives of General Psychiatry, US, found that people who get only six to seven hours sleep a night live longer. People who sleep eight hours or more, or less than four hours, a night were shown to have a significantly higher death rate.

Make your marriage work
Being happily married for a long time leads to greater life expectancy for men and women. However, divorcing then remarrying actually increases the risk of dying prematurely, says a study in Health Psychology Journal.

Walk, run, jump
Fit women have a 40 per cent less chance of developing coronary heart disease than those who don't exercise regularly, says Dr Ken Cooper of the Cooper Institute of Aerobic Research, US. He also found that people in the lower 20 per cent of fitness were three times more likely to die prematurely than the fittest group

Have sex
Couples with a healthy sex life can look up to seven years younger than those who don't, according to a study by Dr David Weeks at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. This is because sex reduces stress, leads to greater contentment and better sleep.

Halloween Oct 31, 2008 7:15 am

Halloween (or Hallowe’en) is an international holiday celebrated on the evening of October 31; today it is often celebrated in the morning and afternoon as well. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving jack-o'-lanterns, reading scary stories, and watching horror movies. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is celebrated in several countries of the Western world, most commonly in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, and at times in parts of New Zealand. In Sweden the All Saints' official holiday takes place on the first Saturday of November.

All Hallow's Eve, Hallow E'en, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Samhain. By whatever name it has been called, this special night preceding All Hallows day (November 1st) has been considered for centuries as one of the most magical nights of the year. A night of power, when the veil that separates our world from the Otherworld is at its thinnest.

As ubiquitous as Halloween celebrations are throughout the world, few of us know that the true origin of Halloween is a ceremony of honoring our ancestors and the day of the dead. A time when the veils between the worlds were thinner, and so many could "see" the other side of life. A time in the year when the spiritual and material worlds touched for a moment, and a greater potential exists for magical creation.

Ancient rites : In ancient times, this day was a special and honored day of the year.

In the Celtic calendar, it was one of the most important days of the year, representing a mid point in the year, Samhain, or "summer's end". Occuring opposite the great Spring Festival of May Day, or Beltain, this day represented the turning point of the year, the eve of the new year which begins with the onset of the dark phase of the year.

And while celebrated by the Celts, the origin of this day has connections to other cultures as well, such as Egypt, and in Mexico as Dia de la Muerta, or the day of the dead.
The Celts believed that the normal laws of space and time were held in abeyance during this time, allowing a special window where the spirit world could intermingle with the living. It was a night when the dead could cross the veils and return to the land of the living to celebrate with their family, or clan. As such, the great burial mounds of Ireland were lit up with torches lining the walls, so the spirits of the dead could find their way

The carved pumpkin, lit by a candle inside, is one of Halloween's most prominent symbols in America, and is commonly called a jack-o'-lantern. Originating in Europe, these lanterns were first carved from a turnip or rutabaga. Believing that the head was the most powerful part of the body containing the spirit and the knowledge, the Celts used the "head" of the vegetable to frighten off any superstitions. The name jack-o'-lantern can be traced back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling, hard-drinking old farmer. He tricked the devil into climbing a tree and trapped him by carving a cross into the tree trunk. In revenge, the devil placed a curse on Jack, condemning him to forever wander the earth at night with the only light he had: a candle inside of a hollowed turnip. The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America, where pumpkins were readily available and much larger, making them easier to carve than turnips. Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their home's doorstep after dark. In America the tradition of carving pumpkins is known to have preceded the Great Famine period of Irish immigration. The carved pumpkin was originally associated with harvest time in general in America and did not become specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 19th century.

The imagery surrounding Halloween is largely an amalgamation of the Halloween season itself, nearly a century of work from American filmmakers and graphic artists, and a rather commercialized take on the dark and mysterious. Halloween imagery tends to involve death, magic, or mythical monsters. Traditional characters include ghosts, ghouls, witches, owls, crows, vultures, pumpkin-men, black cats, spiders, goblins, zombies, mummies, skeletons, and demons.

Particularly in America, symbolism is inspired by classic horror films, which contain fictional figures like Frankenstein's monster and The Mummy. Elements of the autumn season, such as pumpkins and scarecrows, are also prevalent. Homes are often decorated with these types of symbols around Halloween.

MEN ARE MARVELOUS CREATURES

If you kiss him, he kisses you back
If you don't, he patiently waits
If you praise him, he says thanks you
If you don't, he feels secure in your love
If you agree to all his likes, you have met your fantasy man
If you don't, you still get along
If you visit him often, he welcomes you every time
If you don't, he'll visit you instead
If you are well dressed, he says you are beautiful
If you don't, you are still beautiful
If you are jealous, he reassures you and holds you
If you're not, he gives you no reason to be
If you attempt a romance, he sweeps you off your feet
If you don't, he'll love you from afar
If you are a minute late, he is grateful for your arrival
If he is late, he apologizes and makes it up to you
If you visit another man, he is secure that you love only him
If he is visited by another woman, you are secure that he loves only you
If you kiss him once in a while, he's apt to be receprocative of your affection
If you kiss him often, he will always have you on his mind
If he fails to help you in crossing the street, you know you're a big girl
If he does, he shows that he'll always be there for you
If you stare at another man, he knows that you're only admiring If he is stared at by other women, you know why -- she's one hot babe
If you talk, he'll always listen
If you listen, he'll tell you anything you want to know

In short:
So complex, yet so direct
So strong, yet so supportive
So dazzling, yet so humble
So passionate, yet so marvelous....

Coping with stress Oct 29, 2008 3:36 am

Did you know you could combat stress, enhance your sex drive and improve your sleep patterns by making small changes to your diet? Here's how to eat your way to better health

Coping with stress
Scoffing chocolate and cake is a common reaction to stress and bad moods. Yet sugary comfort foods can actually leave you feeling worse. Research has found that healthy foods such as fruit, oily fish and vegetables help your body cope with stress and therefore have a better effect on your mood.

Next time you're stressed, bypass the cake and reach for a healthier snack. Boost your mood by eating foods that release the happy, calming hormone, serotonin, into the body. Carbohydrates, like mashed potato and bananas are good picks, but be warned, too large a portion of carbohydrate can leave you feeling groggy.

High levels of stress take its toll on your immune system and your general health. 'Sadness, anger, worry, fear and shock release hormones into the body which tax the liver,' says nutritionist Dr Gillian McKeith. Stress also depletes stores of vitamin C. Not only is vitamin C essential for your immune system, but it aids the absorption of iron and magnesium - the minerals that control activity of all muscles, including the heart.

Stress-busting action plan
Essential foods for beating stress include, oily fish - tinned tuna and mackerel, nuts and seeds, especially walnuts. Avocado, bananas, dates, aubergine and carbohydrate-rich foods such as wholegrains, fruit, bread, potato and pasta are also good examples.

If you have been under stress for an extended period of time, top up your body's stores of vitamin C and magnesium by eating loads of pineapple, fresh berries, sweet potatoes, oranges, peppers, dark green vegetables, wholegrains, nuts and seeds, pulses and dairy produce.

Give your liver a helping hand by cutting out junk foods and eating raw, fresh and unprocessed foods instead. Top up your daily intake of vegetables with a green salad. You could also take a milk thistle supplement, known to aid liver function

pls test your lipstck and avoid cancer......
===================================

Something to consider
Next time you go shopping for
Lipstick......

This comes from someone
Who works in the breast cancer unit at
Mt. Sinai Hospital, in Toronto.....
From: Dr. Nahid Neman

"....If there is a female you care anything about,
Share this with her.
I am also sharing this with the males on my e-mail list,
Because they need to tell the females THEY care about as well!

Recently a lipstick brand called 'Red Earth'
Decreased their prices from $67 to $9.90.
It contained lead.
Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.

The lipstick brands that contain lead are:
CHRISTIAN DIOR
LANCÔME
CLINIQUE
Y.S.L
SHISEIDO
RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.

The higher the lead content,
The greater the chance of causing cancer.

After doing a test on lipsticks,
It was found that the Y.S.L. Lipstick
Contained the most amount of lead.

Watch out for those lipsticks
Which are supposed to stay longer.

If your lipstick stays longer, it is
Because of the higher content of lead.

Here is the test you can do yourself:

1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick colour changes to black,

Then you know the lipstick contains lead.
Please send this information to all your girlfriends,
Wives and female family members...."
