Are all religions based on the same three truths and one problem? Feb 28, 2007 2:13 am
632 Views
1. Loving kindness, generosity, fairness, forgiveness, inclusion, sharing.

2. Ethics, wisdom, truth, sincerity, honesty, integrity.

3. Acknowledgement of the existence and importance of spirit, that spirit is the original source of all, and ultimately or potentially in control of all, that material is not creative or causative, that any genuine sustainable growth or advancement or improvement or betterment or healing comes primarily from spirit.

Is the hardest question for all religions how to deal with people who hinder or hurt or harm?

How can one solve wanting to accept and include and believe in everyone but also wanting to protect self and others from hindrance and hurt and harm?

How can we fully harmonize love and ethics so that they strengthen and increase each other?

What are the solutions to this? Are there traditional solutions? Can we create new solutions?

Please enlighten us. Please advise us. Please help us.

Do today's movies and television programs encourage respect for honest work of all kinds... Feb 25, 2007 8:48 pm

...or only for glamorous work?

Do today's movies and television programs give good examples and role models for taking pride in a job well done, and taking pleasure in providing good service to the public, regardless of whether the product or service we provide is glamorous?

Why are whales and dolphins beaching themselves? Feb 24, 2007 7:41 pm

Is it because of submarine sonar experiments?

Whales and dolphins, like bats, have highly developed natural echolocation. Do these human artificial sonar experiments cause these sea mammals excruciating pain and disorientation severe enough to drive them to suicide? Have autopsies of them found hemorrhaging in their brains?

Do humans have a responsibility to prevent mistreatment of animals and their habitats?

Where has the U.S. government been disposing of radioactive "waste"? Feb 24, 2007 3:44 am

Have they been putting it into "depleted" uranium munitions to be exploded in Bosnia, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Iraq? Where next?

Has this caused cancer and birth defects to skyrocket in these countries?

Is the U.S. government also dumping radioactive "waste" in the Pacific Ocean? What effects is it causing there? Will ocean currents and migrating fish, dolphins, whales, and seabirds spread it elsewhere?

Poems for Rani, Arvai, Mighty, Sunny... Feb 16, 2007 3:24 am
619 Views

Rainstorm, thunder, lightening!
Rani, your power is frightening!
Till your rain
Soothes us sane.
Oh! You're truly delightening...

Arvai, the mysterious Sphinx?
Could he be a Buddha, ya thinks?
He might be the brother
Of Mona Lisa or other,
Cuz his smile and his word never blinks,
Never finks, never shrinks,
Never brinks, never sinks,
Never stinks, never jinx,
Never slinks, never kinks,
Always thinks, always clinks...
Maybe winks?
He's the smoothest Saint in these precincts...

Great Mighty, our hero of cyber,
Drove the Taliban back through the Khyber,
With his stick or his carrot
Or his cowboy flung lariat--
This soldier sports extra tough fiber.

Is it Sunny who shines cross the sky?
So all the night tears soon to dry?
Dears, when you stop crying,
Sweet ladies, start eyeing.
Yes! 'Tis Bunny whose hops catch your eye!

I invite everyone to contribute loving respectful poems of all kinds and styles...
The thought is more important than the skill, so post whatever comes out of your heart...
But if you are also blessed with talent...share it!

Poems for Our Friends... Feb 14, 2007 7:30 pm
Mood: Playful, 973 Views

Kavita, we missed you for weeks!
The number of posts on you speaks.
So now that you're back,
Our comments high stack.
And I'm so excited, it leaks...

VM, please feel spunky real soon.
We'll rejoice when you break forth in tune.
If someone's oppressing you,
Just create till you break right through!
Then we'll feast with high glass and full spoon.

The Star in the sky shines the brightest,
Though the moon try as hard as she mightest.
'Tis her twinkle in eye?
Macadamia pie?
No! 'Tis her heart that her fiance eyesest!

It's clear I mistooked about Luna,
When she slept in her phase of new moona.
Now she waxes so bright!
I'm struck dumb in full fright...
How I grieve that I spoke much too soona.

There was 'mongst the fragrance' of May
The most beauteous bud on a spray.
Her limbs, they did prance,
And her belly did dance,
Till the gents to her poem swooned away.

Stassy, so sassy and brassy,
Rhymes her name, no coy lassie.
She's smart as can be,
And ethical times three,
With classy face and chassis.

A mermaid I dreamt of named Vina
Stole my heart when she plunged from the zenith.
If I follow, I'll drown.
If I don't, I'm a clown.
So I'll post for advice from Kavita.

An engineer lass Stolen Kisses
Told modern ideas to my missus.
Now she won't do her work
'Less I pose as her clerk,
Yet she still sports chic dresses and tresses.

A gentleman rare, dubbed Sir Good--
He's the ace 'ristocrat 'mongst us hoods--
Does respectfully chastise,
But then playfully flirt wise,
Merely hinting at conquests he could.

The god of the seas is dubbed Aqua.
His realms glint and glimmer like lacquer.
The goddesses there
Know his luv is true fair,
Though he flirt as if singing grand opera.

Pyyro, Pyyro, flaming bright,
In all hearts all through the night,
Can we live to see the day?
Yes . . . but chaff you ash away!

A brilliant detective is Soorya.
He'll powder your toe prints, I assure ya.
So wear your gumshoes,
And be wise when to snooze,
Or he'll nab you and promptly adjure ya.

Kind Pretty is patiently waiting
For a limerick badly postdating.
Sweet, strong, smart, wise, and fair--
All the fellows do stare--
At least she'll not wait for choice mating!

Hansini, the beautiful Swan,
Glides gracefully hither and yon.
Her timbre of voice
May not Sweet seem, by choice,
Yet she'll never elicit a yawn.

Natie the arachnophile
Works in gemstones of carats by mile.
The fang, she ain't mind it,
For she rests behind it.
'Tis the folks out in front fear to smile.

Will the brooch through the heart
Give the ticker a start?
Or consign it to history's file?
Or resign it to mystery's vial . . .

A versatile wordsmith is Pretty.
She inspires Apollonian ditties.
The cat says, "Meow,"
Prizefighters mime, "Pow!"
And Pretty's penned songs float the city.

Sir Goodie is fond to say, "Simple!"
Which he tones with a smile and a dimple.
Never could he offend, "Dear,"
Neither, "ha ha," pretend smear,
For his heart's as a pure sister's wimple.

I invite everyone to contribute loving respectful poems...

Which version is better?
Or should I keep them both?
As two separate poems?
Or one poem with two stanzas?
Which should be the first stanza?

1

sunlight shatters through showering water
glints off speckled banana
off amber pear
off yellow apple
off orange
off golden-yellow glass dish
in which i rinse them

2

in a golden-yellow glass dish
under showering water
i rinse
a speckled yellow banana
a golden brown pear
a golden delicious apple
a golden orange
in the golden sunshine

he returned from the sea
he smelled of fuel
he could not speak
but the vacancy of his face and eyes spoke
he could not tell
but the swelling of his lips and tongue told
he danced as windmills
oceanwheels
solar cells
at night he dissolved the bricks of dams
the scaffolding of thermal mines
and willed away the wisp of spent isotopes
he chemoplastic shrink-wrapped two nonelected presidents
of purportedly opposing nations
belly to belly
and dropped them into the single-hulled
rust-wrecked tarnished tanker
where sharks and worms mutated to petrol dependency
