After reading a post by Aumoshaoum about "A possible ban on yoga practices among the Malysian people", we were reminded of this passage in a book from "Bhagavati Sri Sri Sri Vijayeswari Devi" (Amma), a recognized avatar of the beloved Mother Saraswati who resides at the Ashram in Penusila, Ahndra Pradesh.
The title of book is: "SRI VIDYA" Divine Radience Within~~~2005 ~~~~ "In the past, when people came to India from Afghanistan and other places, they crossed the Sindhu River. They could not pronounce the sound, "Si", in Sindhu, so they said "Hi' instead. That is how the word "Hindu" originated from the name of the Sindhu River, and how the people living in India came to be called "Hindus". This word, "Hindu," does not exist in the in the vedas. The vedas are eternal light. This light is for everyone. The great rishis, who gave us the sacred vedas, do not say anything at all about religion. Their vision is very wide. Their blessings are for the entire world. A rishi is not like a physical person. He himself is the Light. Whenever he travels in society, he causes a revolution. Yesterday we talked about Divine energy, which resides in the heart lotus of all beings, as Pranada Prana rupini. The great sages knew that this light is the same in everyone. That is why they prayed, "Let the people of the entire universe be always in happiness, joy and Peace." ~~~ In Sri Vidya, or Atma Vidya, the knowledge of the soul, when we talk of the blessings of the holy rishis, we are not referring to any particular individuals. The views of the rishis are luminous with open-mindedness. Their words are a revolution against the narrow ideas and negative attitudes of people like the "Shankaracharya". We respect the"pithadhipati, the Shankaracharya, but we do not agree with these views. ~~~ "Pithadhipati: Head of a religious or monastic institution. Not to be confused with Adi Shankaracharya, the great and open-minded sage who revived Sanatana Dharma."
